<p style="font-size:1em; line-height:1.6em;">The plenty of shopping-centres that have been opened or extended in the last years seem to not have pacified but stimulated consumer behavior. I simply have to walk Berlin-Mitte pretty much every day and this wasn’t quite a joy lately. Christmas… must have been a religious thing once. Today it seems to consist of 2/5 tradition, 2/5 commerce and 1/5 of mama’s roast goose.

	<p style="font-size:1em; line-height:1.6em;">But hold on… isn’t it true that <a href="http://www.europolitan.de/Politik/Berlin/RELIGIONSMONITOR/278,12425,0,0.html">70% of the German population belong to one of the many religious groups</a>? That’s what the Bertelsmann foundation believes to have discovered by means of a <a href="http://www.religionsmonitor.com/">survey</a>. I had a look at the questions:

	<p style="font-size:1em; line-height:1.6em;">How important are family and children to you?<br />Were you raised religiously?<br />How often did your mother talk with you about religious questions?<br />How often do you meditate?<br />How often do you think about religious issues?<br />How often do you think about suffering and injustice in the world?<br />How strongly are you interested in obtaining more information about religious topics?<br />How strongly do you agree with the statement that people from abroad should adjust to the lifestyle predominant within the host country?<br />…</p>
	<p style="font-size:1em; line-height:1.6em;">Moreover, the survey mixes religion with astrology, spirituality and pantheism. Applying these standards, just about anybody will suddenly be labeled “religious”. (By the way: <a href="http://www.trimondi.de/H.Krieg/Bertelsmann.htm">the Bertelsmann foundation is not quite aloof from religious groups</a>.)</p>
	<p style="font-size:1em; line-height:1.6em;">Whatever, to many it apparently means a lot of fun to live up to expectations, despite shopping-delusion, with or without Jesus. I am relieved that my family doesn’t care about appointments which were not put into the planner by themselves. And now the stores are closed, thank god. The sale has ended. A time for contemplation.</p>

<p style="font-size:1em; line-height:1.6em;">Die vielen Einkaufszentren, die in den letzten Jahren neueröffnet oder erweitert wurden, scheinen das Konsumverhalten nicht befriedet sondern angeheizt zu haben. Ich musste ja nun mal die vergangenen Wochen alltäglich durch Berlin-Mitte ziehen, und nein, auch das hat keinen Spaß gemacht. Weihnachten… das war wohl ursprünglich mal was Religiöses. Heute ist das für die meisten 2/5 Tradition, 2/5 Kommerz und 1/5 von Mamas Gänsebraten.
</p>
	<p style="font-size:1em; line-height:1.6em;">Aber Moment… gehören nicht <a href="http://www.europolitan.de/Politik/Berlin/RELIGIONSMONITOR/278,12425,0,0.html">in Deutschland 70% der Menschen einer der zahlreichen Religionsgemeinschaften</a> an? Das nämlich meint die Bertelsmann-Stiftung anhand einer <a href="http://www.religionsmonitor.com/">Umfrage</a> herausgefunden zu haben. Ich habe mir die Fragen mal angeschaut:

	<p style="font-size:1em; line-height:1.6em;">Wie wichtig ist Ihnen eine eigene Familie mit Kindern?<br />Wurden Sie religiös erzogen?<br />Wie oft sprach Ihre Mutter mit Ihnen über religiöse Fragen?<br />Wie häufig meditieren Sie?<br />Wie oft denken Sie über religiöse Themen nach?<br />Wie oft denken Sie über Leid und Ungerechtigkeiten in der Welt nach?<br />Wie stark interessieren Sie sich dafür, mehr über religiöse Themen zu erfahren?<br />Wie stark stimmen Sie der Aussage zu, dass sich Ausländer an den vorherrschenden Lebensstil im Gastgeberland anpassen sollten?<br />…</p>
	<p>Zudem werden in dieser weltweiten Umfrage auch noch Fragen der Religiosität, Astrologie, Spiritualität und des Pantheismus in einen Topf geworfen. Da kann schon mal jeder plötzlich religiös sein. (Übrigens <a href="http://www.trimondi.de/H.Krieg/Bertelsmann.htm">steht die Bertelsmann-Stiftung religiösen Gruppen nicht unbedingt fern</a>.)
</p>
	<p style="font-size:1em; line-height:1.6em;">Wie auch immer, Erwartungen zu erfüllen macht wohl vielen Spaß, trotz Shoppingwahn und ob mit oder ohne Jesus. Da bin ich froh, dass meiner Familie Termine egal sind, die man sich nicht selber im Kalender eingetragen hat. Und jetzt sind die Geschäfte zu, Gott sei Dank. The sale has ended. Zeit zur Besinnung.</p>

Hi everybody,
I am so excited - my first comment on Robert G’s fantastic new blog - the NEW HYPE.
I didn’t really read the article. I just wanted to say that I do LOVE shopping and Christmas is yet another opportunity to go on a shopping spree.

Last but not least, I would like to say that I am really looking forward to the Goodbye Party of Robert at LAUSCH GIFT. I will come definately. It is going to be great - lots of good looking and hot guys and great music. Hope everybody comes……….

OMG Alex Ray on my blog!!! Uh, oh. I need to sit down…
I just checked out feedback but dont think it’s worth the hype. Sort of monotonous; verses, bridge and refrain all sound very similar. Emotionless. Boring. MILES away from a smashing comeback like Hung Up. Outside the US, it’s gonna flop for sure.
Looking forward to seeing you at Lauschgift!

hoo, hoo, hoo :) es ist vorbei. ich hoffe, du hattest ein paar erholsame tage und kannst dich noch bewegen… dieses ganze theater. ich versteh das auch nicht. eigentlich war weihnachten doch mal was ganz anderes. dieses jahr hat es fast geklappt, deshlab werde ich all meine kräfte mobilisieren und nächstes jahr ein geschenke-freies fest durchsetzen. jawohl. :)
freu mich, dich am 12. zu sehen. *hüpf*

Am geschenkefreien Weihnachten war ich dieses Mal ziemlich nah dran, und so ist das auch in Ordnung. Nicht, dass ich in 2007 gar nichts geschenkt hätte - aber nichts davon zu Weihnachten, selten zu Geburtstagen, sondern meistens zwischendurch, völlig unerwartet, weil es eben gerade passte. Ist doch viel schöner, jemandem etwas zu geben, obwohl es gerade nicht vom Kalender so vorgesehen war!
